Skin–Our InterFace II

Ahh yes, we all know that “Beauty is more than skin deep.” Well, it is literally true. If we want to see beauty on our skin, we must delve a little deeper! For instance, we Are– what we eat. It shows on our face. Luckily, by treating the entire system, an acupuncturist can target the organ imbalances that are reflecting on our face– in the form of lines, fluid sacks, jowls, and discoloration.

An imbalance in the kidneys results in bags under the eyes, or liver toxicity shows as furrows on our brow. A hormone imbalance will leave fine vertical lines above the mouth, while lines along side the mouth reflect poor digestion. Herbal formulas, along with dietary changes and topical formulas can also help reverse these imbalances, improve both mind & body, and the appearance of the skin.

After dealing with the overall health to revitalize the face, then cosmetic acupuncture can serve as an effective non-surgical treatment to reduce further stubborn signs of aging. After all, we are also what we breathe. Since the skin constitutes an external organ and the largest organ in the body, every day each skin cell is assaulted by endless damaging pollutants.

Acupuncture can be performed on the face and body to detoxify, increase local circulation, and stimulate collagen and elastin. This in turn helps to fill out lines and give firmness to the skin for a healthy complexion. Our muscles become deflated with age, losing their moisture— like a dry sponge. Acupuncture restores the natural internal irrigation so the ‘sponge’ is plumped up again and wrinkles disappear. How it’s done in the next blog!
